Overview
Hooked on Barra is the only guided, land-based barramundi fishing experience just outside Darwin on the way to Kakadu, set on a scenic floodplain teeming with wildlife. You’ll fish from the edge of a stocked dam. No boat? No stress! using easy-to-handle gear with help from friendly local guides. It’s designed for all ages and skill levels, making it perfect for families, first-timers, and curious travellers.
Where else can you hook a saltwater-bred barra while spotting crocs and buffalo in the distance - all in the same afternoon? Simple, safe, and wildly fun. Just cast, set the lure, and reel in your Northern Territory memory.

What To Expect
Your Hooked on Barra experience begins with check-in at our beautiful floodplain fishing spot, just over an hour from Darwin.
After a friendly welcome, your guide will run you through a quick safety briefing and show you the ropes. You’ll learn how to set the lure, cast it like a pro, and reel it in with the right technique to entice a strike.
Then it's go time.
Head down to our custom-built casting zones along the stocked freshwater dam. Using lightweight rods, you’ll fish for strong, saltwater-bred barramundi ranging from 20cm to over a metre. The thrill hits when that rod bends and the barra breaks the surface.
We’ll be on hand to help you land your catch, offer tips, while you have a go at being an angler. Whether it's your first time fishing or your hundredth, this is an authentic, fun, and wild NT experience to remember.
Sometimes we catch so many fish, that we have to manage the bag limit for the welfare of our animals - This doesn't take from the experience, we believe it adds to it. Yes. Whatever the fishing calls for: live bait, frozen bait, cut bait, or chum, our Charter Captains will have plentiful supplies on hand. The same thing goes for artificial bait such as lures, flies, or plugs.
Jul 2022If you have any doubts about becoming seasick on the water, we recommend taking a Dramamine® Motion Sickness Relief tablet the night before your trip. Some people recommend taking it the night before your cruise and then again that morning so you will not feel so drowsy.
Feb 2023- For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the adventure start time.
- If you cancel less than 24 hours before the adventure start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
- Any changes made less than 24 hours before the adventure start time will not be accepted.
