Parque Central Independencia

The Central Park Independencia is considered one of the most precious symbols of the city of Puerto Plata and has great historical value for Dominicans. It was built by the military and president Gregorio Luperón during the government he led in 1879. Parque Independencia–also known as Parque Central–is the centerpiece of Puerto Plata city, framed with royal palms and hugged on all four corners by pastel-colored Victorian-era architecture. Catedral San Felipe

The original wooden church was destroyed by fire in 1863 during the so-called "War of the Restoration". Its reconstruction began in 1929 and was completed in 19563, being affected by an earthquake in 1946.
