Cañon City Colorado is a tiny Old West town born out of mid-19th century oil and gold discoveries in the southwest foothills of Pikes Peak. The Downtown Historic District, nearby Royal Gorge Bridge & Park, and a great environment for outdoor activities have made Cañon City a popular tourist destination. The Arkansas River cuts through the town, and a few miles upstream, the Royal Gorge Bridge crosses 955 feet above the river as the nation’s highest suspension bridge. The park at the bridge is a prime attraction, but the historic passenger train through the gorge, the walkable downtown, river rafting, fishing, mountain biking, wineries, and farmer’s markets all add to Cañon City’s allure.

We had the most amazing experience! It had been many years since I'd been white water rafting. My kids had never been. They absolutely LOVED it. Our guide was Kyle. Kyle was incredible. We talked with him the whole time. He knew so much about the area, the history of the river and things we would see. He was an absolute WEALTH of knowledge. These guides work so hard to get us through safely. The company we booked through is a family owned and operated venture and we love that too! Great little shop to pick up a few last things...or some Lost Paddle swag. Good designs! We also had lunch provided since we did the full day. It was delicious. Fresh sandwiches, you can assemble yourself, fruit, granola bars, chips etc. It was just want you want during a long day of rafting. Thanks to everyone for helping make our summer trip a very memorable one.

What a great time. Siggy was our raft guide and was experienced and very friendly. We had a great conversation while on the float. Water was low so not quite as exciting, but it was well worth it!

My son's first float!
I took my son on his first whitewater rafting experience with River Runners in the Royal Gorge. He absolutely loved it and so did I! the experience was overall great. From check in to the pulling the rafts out of the water - everything went smoothly. Our guide, John, was obviously a seasoned vet! He helped us steer through things with ease. No getting stuck or losing anyone overboard. The experience felt safe through the whole float. Even with the water levels being really low this year (2026) the float was still enjoyable. The 1/2 day session seemed to be just right. Overall it was ~3 hours from start to finish (maybe a bit longer due to some of the other rafts inexperience). It's a little slow on the 2nd half of the float, but John made up for it with providing some history of the Royal Gorge. The fees were inline with what I expected. Actually, they were a little cheaper than some competitors in the area. There were 5 boats total in our group which seemed like an adequate party size; however, it did make for a bit of slowdowns with the other boats getting stuck and having to wait for them for safety reasons. Overall, we had a blast and we'd love to come back sometime to do another section of the float with River Runners!

First time white water rafting on the Bighorn tour with our group of 11 (age ranges 10 to 44). We were divided into 3 rafts. Our guide Sara was excellent and kept us entertained. All the guides were very friendly. We all had a great time!

Expensive but very fun! Our guide Blake was amazing, very patient and interactive with our kiddos which made it such a special time for them. The front office staff weren’t very helpful but overall, great experience.

This little operator has all the good stuff. Equipment and boats were in great condition, the river guide was super friendly and knowledgeable. We felt safe and well informed. We saw big horned sheep, all the important things were pointed out and explained, the views are so amazing! Don’t hesitate because it’s not a huge commercial company. We would book again. *tip advice* We expected to tip at about 10% but the going rate is closer to 20% or $20-25 a person* *family of 4 *first time on the river My only advice for the operator is take a photo of the boat/family before taking off and air drop it to them, otherwise they have zero photos unless they buy the action shots.

Wear your sunscreen and be prepared to do a bit of paddling- not too much but just enough to keep the raft from tipping and navigating through the rocks. This is a small family outfit but the experience was big. Our guide, Mark, was great!
