Visit the historical 100-year-old British shipwreck of Minnewaska, which lies about 20 meters deep and was sunk in 1916 by a mine and built by the same company as the Titanic (White Star Line)!
The name Minnewaska comes from the American Indian word meaning clear water. The ship was built in Belfast in November 1908 and It was 183 meters long constructed as a passenger steamer. During the first world war the ship was used by the British military to transport troops. On the 29th November 1916 the ship was leaving Souda with the troops onboard when she struck a mine laid by a German submarine UC23. Hold below the water line she started to sink Captain Gates steered a course to the nearest land to try to beach the ship in the area of Marathi.

Meeting and Pickup
Pickup begins earlier than starting time and is done from specific meeting points near your hotel within the region of Chania. You will receive an email via Viator platform for we specify the pickup place and time. Please note that pickup directly outside your hotel is not always possible — you will instead be given the nearest possible pickup point. If you are staying outside the pick-up area or you have your own car, you can come straight to Omega Divers in Almyrida at starting time, which 25 kilometers east of the city center.

What To Expect
You will see of the most sought-after diving spots in Chania that you must include in your dive program.
The programs are aimed at active certified divers and include 2 boat dives, which depend on the weather conditions on the specific days.
The Elephant Cave program (2 boat dives), which is a must for any diver visiting Crete, is very easy, with 2 huge chambers, very shallow water (2 & 1 meter respectively), breathable air, at a maximum depth of 12 meters, and visibility of more than 20 meters and the most beautiful crystal clear water. Inside you will be able to see 60000 years old fossils of elephants and deers.
See the first diving park of Greece, where you’ll explore 44 thriving artificial reefs and the fascinating wreck of "Nestor", a vibrant hub for marine life.
The Tugboat Nestore Wreck, which lies about 20 meters deep, was sunk on April 10, 2025. During your dives, we will explore Apokoronas Diving Park with a thrilling 2 shore dives using sea scooters to reach 44 artificial reefs and the sunken Tugboat R/K Nestor—an exciting new underwater site designed to support marine life and amaze divers.

Participants in the Chania Diving Trips for Certified Divers cannot fly in an airplane within 24 hours of their dive.
The main concern with scuba diving and flying is decompression sickness (DCS). Your body needs adequate time during an ascent to off-gas excess nitrogen, or you can form bubbles in your bloodstream, possibly leading to DCS.
Jun 2024If you have any doubts about becoming seasick on the water, we recommend taking a Dramamine® Motion Sickness Relief tablet the night before your trip. Some people recommend taking it the night before your cruise and then again that morning so you will not feel so drowsy.
Feb 2023- For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the adventure start time.
