The second day of our five-day private tour of Portugal will take us to Sintra, the paradise of the Portuguese Aristocracy. We will discover the charm of the narrow alleys and the shops selling typical and regional products, heading to the Piriquita confectionery, with its famous “Travesseiros de Sintra” sweets and also the “Queijadas de Sintra” waiting for you.

Park and National Palace of Pena

The choice of which palace (or palaces) to visit is yours, the guide will suggest which are the best to visit among: "Quinta da Regaleira", a 19th century palace. although it has an older appearance, with an impressive decoration, rich in Masonic symbolism, the Castle of the Moors, a testimony to the Islamic presence in the region, built between the 8th and 9th centuries, and expanded after the reconquest, and because not the Pena Palace, a fantastic and vitalizing reconstruction, to prove the romanticism of the 19th century, which received the passion and imagination of the "artist" D. Fernando, consort of D. Maria II.

Farol do cabo da Roca

The geological formation of “Cabo da Roca”, some prefer to call it “Promontory of the Moon”, a more poetic name, which fits the imaginable beauty of the place. Fatima, Coimbra, Porto

Basilica de Nossa Senhora do Rosario de Fatima

On the third day of our private five-day itinerary in Portugal, we will depart from Lisbon and visit Fátima, we will find three places of interest where you can attend a mass (optional), visit the Chapel of Apparitions, the first Chapel to be built immediately after the apparitions occupying a prominent place, not because of their size or grandeur, but rather because of the location, practically in the center of the Sanctuary. And also a quick visit to Casa dos Pastorinhos in Valinhos

Basilica of the Holy Trinity

The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, built in 1928 in neo-baroque style, today houses the tombs of the children, but also the tomb of Sister Lúcia who died in 2005, and also the Basilica of the Holy Trinity, built in 2007 with more than 8,000 seats and 40,000 m² of area were designed by Greek architect Alexandros Tombazis, a modern and quite imposing church.

Universita Di Coimbra

The time has come to go to Coimbra, where we will begin our visit to the University of Coimbra (the oldest in Europe), with its highlights, such as the Joanina library, built in the 18th century in the university's former prison, it is simply one of the most beautiful libraries in the world, its decoration was completed only close to the 18th century and the frescoes were painted by Masters António Ribeiro and Vicente Nunes, and the portrait of Dom João V was made by the Italian Domenico Dupra. The Lello bookstore is perfect for lovers of literature and architecture, especially fans of "Harry Potter". Its staircase is a great attraction that served as inspiration for JK Rowling who, despite never having spoken openly about the period she was in Portugal, married a Portuguese man and lived in Porto when she began writing “Harry Potter and the Philosophical stone".

Sao Bento Railway Station

Another attraction that cannot be missed on a visit to Porto is the São Bento train station, where 20 thousand tiles by Portuguese artist Jorge Colaço will take you on a virtual journey through Portugal, the north in general, with a special emphasis on the different civilizations that passed through here and different occupations.

Catedral do Porto

Porto Cathedral, a church with a Roman-Gothic structure that began to be built in the 12th century, but with several renovations in the 17th and 18th centuries, stands the medieval rose window from the 12th century and, outside, the highlight is the side gallery, work by Nicolau Nasoni in 1736, decorated with tiles.

Centro Historico de Evora

We will leave Lisbon towards Évora, the residence of some of the Portuguese kings, a point of convergence for world-famous artists, supported by the patronage and dynasty that reign in Portugal. The period of discoveries was one of glory for Évora, creating particularly favorable conditions for the construction of numerous aristocratic mansions in the city, such as the Jesuit university. From the ancient “Temple of Diana” next to the Évora Cathedral, built in the Roman period, we can see the magnificent “Água da Prata” aqueduct, outside the city walls and which extends from the outskirts of the city. Some of its arches are still visible within the city, built in the 16th century to transport water.

Chapel of Bones

However, the ex-libris will be the Church of São Francisco, especially the Capela dos Ossos, lined with skulls and bones of 500 monks, attracting thousands of people every year and with the famous warning at the entrance, “We bones who are here We wait for you.”

Ervideira

Alentejo wine has a unique profile, something that seems impossible to happen in a region with a hot and dry climate, making it essential to add water to the vineyard, a very sunny area with soils and reliefs that allow the grapes to ripen perfectly. It is a practically flat region that produces white wines that are generally smooth, slightly acidic and with aromas of tropical fruits, the red wines are full-bodied, rich in tannins and with aromas of wild and red fruits. Corticarte - Arte em Cortica

Another option for our day will be a visit to a cork processing factory, cork is the bark of a Cork Oak, with excellent characteristics, light, elastic and fire resistant, among others. Each year the bark grows, however, only every nine years should it be removed from the tree, definitely an excellent protection for the tree against heat, cold and fires. Once removed from the tree, new bark will form. Portugal is responsible for 55% of the world's cork production, valued worldwide in decorative cork coverings on walls and floors, being the ideal material for the manufacture of sporting goods, such as baseballs or handles for fishing rods. However, cork is best known for being the raw material for cork stoppers, as it allows very small amounts of oxygen to come into contact with the wine, without harming the aging process. Read less
